Clothing and personal essentials: a short checklist
These suggestions cover a horseback trip with one, two or three yurt nights. They describe things to bring or arrange, rather than equipment included in your booking.
| Purpose | Pack |
|---|---|
| Riding clothes | Comfortable long trousers, a long-sleeved top and riding gloves |
| Extra layers | A warm top, wind and rain protection, a warm hat and spare socks |
| Dry overnight change | Separate socks, underwear and sleepwear in waterproof packing |
| Sun and water | Sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat for stops and a reusable bottle |
| Personal items | Personal medication, toothbrush, small wash kit and bags for your own rubbish |
| Light and power | Headtorch, charged phone, cable and power bank |
| Documents | Passport, insurance details and organiser contacts saved for offline access |
Arrange a helmet and suitable footwear first
Use a properly fitted, fastened riding helmet. The British Horse Society stresses fit and recommends professional fitting when buying one. Before travel, confirm that an appropriate size will be available or arrange your own; a general reference to basic equipment does not answer that question.
Riding boots with a small heel and suitable sole are preferable. The British Horse Society highlights the risk of heavy tread catching in a stirrup. If you only have hiking boots, show them to the organiser beforehand and check their suitability for the stirrups; closed footwear alone is not enough.
Choose clothes for time in the saddle
Try your trousers before the trip: bulky inner-leg seams can rub during a long ride. Fasten your jacket and secure loose clothing so it does not flap. These clothing suggestions follow British Horse Society guidance.
Pack dry evening clothes separately from your riding kit. For four days, check that socks, underwear and battery capacity cover three overnights. More days mainly mean enough personal supplies; they do not require a completely different wardrobe.
What stays accessible and what goes in your luggage
Arrange water, your phone, sun protection and daytime personal essentials so that you can reach them during a stop. Avoid dangling straps and unsecured items. Agree with your guide how to carry a small backpack or bag.
Use a compact soft bag for the remaining items, with waterproof protection for the contents. Before finishing your packing, ask for the luggage limit, whether saddlebags are supplied and how the main bag travels. These arrangements differ between operators.
Do you need a sleeping bag, power bank or camera?
Whether to bring a sleeping bag depends on the bedding confirmed for the camps and your own needs. Ask what blankets and bedding each yurt provides and whether rental is available before adding a bulky sleeping bag. Bring a headtorch and charged power bank even if you expect somewhere to charge.
Take a camera if you can carry it compactly and protect it from water. Leave room for essential personal items you cannot easily replace on the route. Confirm drinking-water arrangements and bottle refill points before starting.
Check your luggage plan against the finish village
Express returns to Kuyruchuk. Classic and Expedition finish in Kyzart, so leaving a suitcase at the start does not settle how you collect it afterwards. Agree where the bag will be on the final day and whether moving it is included in the price.
- Confirm helmet, footwear and luggage arrangements
- Agree on a sleeping bag or the bedding supplied
- Save the itinerary, contacts and meeting point offline
- Check where you will collect any stored luggage
