When to visit Song-Kul: horseback tour season

June, July–August or September: which should you choose?

KCBTA's detailed horseback itinerary recommends late June–mid-September; Visit Alay recommends June–mid-September. These are destination-planning references from other local operators, not Shilbili Travel's departure schedule. Our published season is June–September; specific departures and camps need separate confirmation.

Put the entire journey on your calendar first

The two-day Express meets and returns in Kuyruchuk. The three-day Classic and four-day Expedition start in Kuyruchuk but finish in Kyzart. Your journey from Bishkek and the next leg of your trip therefore need different meeting and collection points depending on the tour.

Classic reaches the lake on day two, with lunch and free time in the afternoon. Expedition adds Tuz-Ashuu and another overnight. If you have only two free days between other connections, do not fit a three-day programme into them by counting only its night at the lake.

Pack for mountains even in summer

Visit Alay's practical guidance warns of cold nights, windy passes and changeable weather. Bring a warm layer, wind and rain protection, and dry overnight clothing for any summer date. This is not a month-by-month forecast or a guarantee of particular temperatures.

At either end of the season, check the whole journey, not just the road to the lake. The trail through Ichki Jailoo, the crossing towards Tuz-Ashuu and individual camps may have different conditions. One confirmed lakeside overnight does not confirm the others.

Send fixed holiday dates together with your tour length, or give a range if the start can move. Avoid connecting the final riding day directly to an international flight; discuss a time buffer together with the journey to the airport.

What you can decide for the 2027 season now

Choose the route length, approximate month and where you want to travel next. That lets you compare the complete trip, including transport and accommodation outside the tour, rather than just days in the saddle.

A useful enquiry might say: 'We are two travellers considering three days between 10 and 20 July 2027. One of us has never ridden. We will be in Bishkek before the tour and want to continue to Issyk-Kul afterwards. Which dates and transfers could work?' These dates illustrate an enquiry; they are not an advertised departure.
